olivia gordon"if your in a position that its life or death you do what ever it takes to survive, when your in those situations your mind switches off. isnt there an ancient rule that the "captain should go down with his ship?". But im not saying that what the sailor did was alright, if they worked together both of them may of survived."
Amy"I think this is a difficult question because it is the fine line between law and morals. Although the law cannot govern moral it is the right think to help a injured person. I am disgusted that someone would let one of g_d people die like that but the law cannot hold people responsible for a immoral choice. This is however a learning experience for Walmart and in a broader way for all. "
Riki"i believe u need to save yourself, and do all in your power to stay alive, but who gives you the right to kill the other guy - maybe he would survive somehow without the life-preservr?? "
Leora"I don't think the deckhand should have killed his captain. he should have lived anyways because he is younger and has more life left to him. The captain was old and should have let the younger guy take the life vest."
Anne-Sarah"This is probably one of the toughest questions we are faced with today. "If we have a right to life, do we also have the right to end our life?" If you look at it from a religious point of view, God gave you your life and he should be the only one allowed to take it.
I don't know legally how we could think of it but what is for sure is that if we "allow" suicide, then other issues such as euthanasia will come up. If I want to end my life but can't, is my mom/uncle/friend/doctor allowed to enf it for me?
About the plastic around the bridge, I don't know moneywise if it's "worth it" (we would have to see how many people will then make that second jump into the water) but what's for sure is that a lot of people wouldn't make that second jump. Most suicide attempts are cries for help, and just realizing that someone put in the effort and money to add plastic under the bridge so that it would be harder for you to end your life might be what a person needs to get back on their feet."
Anne-Sarah""its owner wants cash to cover the costs"
What costs?!?! As far as I know, he didn't look at his boat and thought of going and saving 100s of people with it... The only reason why the man is suing is because he is jealous of his neighbor for having rescued so many people and the fact that he didn't get any credit even though it was his boat. It's a kinf od shout out to the public saying "hey, if MY boat hadn't been in my yard, then he wouldn't have been able to save anyone""
Leora"I think the person who saved all the people was right but in a way wrong. He should have been more careful of were he put the boat because it wasn't his. But he was right because all those people would have died from heat and no food. The person who's boat was stolen from has a right to be angry at the person who stole it but should be happy that his boat was used to rescue and save many people. I think the guy who saved the people shouldn't have to pay because either way the boat was going to get destroyed. Instead of being ruined from the water it was ruined for a good cause."
Tracy_MOntreal Q."This case is very difficult to decide - i want to help people, i would for sure try to discourage a friend from harming herself, but im not sure if (attempted) suicide should be a crime, can the polcie put someine in jail if they tried it??
I just signed up for this program, can't wait! "
Kevin_M - Pt Washington"Is there a difference between suicide and THIS video?!??
Check out the youtube:

Jonathan somers"its horific. my thoughts are this: people are depressed and we should try to help them.
Sadly, I have a relative who ended her life with pills - it doesn't matter how, if a human being is distraught we have to do what's moral and decent and help them to live another day
I'm curious what other's think?"
Marsha N Jersey"What a WASTE of money!! ANyone who wnts to commit suicide will do it from whereever they can.
besids, suicide should be legal - police should NOT have the power to prevent people from ending thier lives if they are dperessed. This is infrignmet of our rights - next time they'll make laws taking away other freedoms..."
MODERATOR"Here is a link to the actual news story:
http://www.masscops.com/forums/idiot-news-articles/17095-katrina-rescuer-sued-boat-owner.html"
Benj H."it's seems to me that, what the guy did was really heroic in away but that doesn't change the fact that the boat was damaged and somebody has to recompensate the boat owner perhaps the state of New Orleans.but we definitly need to have an objective overview of the all case."
I agree with Kevin"To Hana in Orange CT: Kevin has a point. I would also defend the boat owner - simply because his rights were encroached upon. Even though the justification for that act of theft is certainly there - that does not take away from the fact that his rights to the security of his property were infringed upon. Legally and morally he must be compensated for the loss of his property - even if a thousand lives were saved and his boat cost $5 - it's still his property. Maybe the victims should pay...?"
menny w."i think that the guy that saved all those people should not at all have nto pay anything for what he did and i think that the owner of the boat is just taking advantage of the situation and suing the rescuer. if i was that owner of the boat i would definitly be happy if i had the chance to have someone save so many people with my boat!"
Sarah F. Irvine, CA"Hana, what yoir saying make sense - i agree with taht, if you have a choice between saving your iPhone and saving your life of course its obvious you gotta save your life. The problem with what mark did is that he took somone ELSE's property with out permission -how could we allow him to do that? arent we obliggated to protect the rights of the property owners? My mother is a lawyer and she says in that in US law, the property ownerr must be compensated - even though its noble and great to rescue people - at the end of the day its his property!"
Hana Z. - Orange, CT"To Kevin: You are off your rocker! Stealing should be ALLOWED when someone is dying!! How coudl you compare losing MONEY to losing LIVES?!?
"
Michelle"Honestly, Mark's a hero. If the neighbor is so possessive about his boat he should have hopped on in and saved some lives. Does he think his boat would have been perfectly intact after Katrina anyway? The only question I have is that the video said the boat "is missing"...what does that even mean? What, did it run away? If I were Mark's neighbor, I'd be honored that my boat was used to save lives...I'd be paying Mark the $12,000 dollars to come over for dinner... "
Kevin_M - Pt Washington"Mark had no right to steal - thievery leads to the downfall of society, he should have asked permission first. if not - taking it is a crime. in some countries they punish thieves by cutting off their hands!!
Just my humple opinin."
Terrah"I do not think that any person is souly responsible for the accident. I feel that a safe way to help is by calling 911, if someone bent over to help then they could of been stanpeded as well. We all need to help, but only in a way that will not be jepordizing our safety in any way."
Melissa R"I heard this story when it first happened, and it still sickens me to see this again. Every shopper is guilty and should be prosecuted, technically they are all guilty of manslaughter, and more importantly, killed one of G-d's people and should be punished. "
Josh S"I don't think that any one person is responsible, and it is unrealistic to charge the whole walmart crowd of murder. it should just be a lesson that first of all, crowds like that on black friday should be banned, and secondly, strangers should help someone else, but it shouldnt be a law"
David"How could somebody step on somebody else and just keep on walking?"
Ben R"they are guilty"
Lindsey F."i am shocked and sicknd that people are so hnrgy for electronics - the whole black firDay idea is crazy"
Ben G"There si no law in aMerica that obligates people to resuce strangrs, i feel bad for the famly, bt only those who trampled him are guilty of a crime."
Jennifer S."all tho$e shopppers have blood on thier hands... they should be prosekuted"
